Welcome to the University of Georgia Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Here you have the option of enrolling or waiving out of the plan offered by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources.

The Waiver Period for Spring 2017 will be 12/12/2016 - 2/5/2017. The Enrollment Period for Spring 2017 will open 12/12/2016.

The University System of Georgia requires certain groups of students to have health insurance coverage as a condition of enrollment. If you fall into one of the mandated categories of students listed below, you will be automatically enrolled in the mandatory student health insurance plan. If you have other health insurance, you must submit a waiver request to opt out of the mandatory plan. Your other health insurance coverage must meet certain minimum requirements as established by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents:

  • Undergraduate and Graduate international students holding F or J visas
  • Students enrolled in programs that require proof of health insurance coverage.
  • All undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in programs that require proof of health insurance.
  • Graduate students receiving Qualified Graduate Assistantships.
  • Graduate students receiving Qualified Fellowships (must be paid through UGA payroll).
  • Graduate students receiving Qualified Training Grants (must be paid through UGA payroll).


Use your Student ID and date of birth to access either the Enrollment form or the Waiver form. Your Student ID is your 81x# listed on your UGA Card. Your 81x# consists of nine digits. Do not enter the last digit on your UGA Card


The waiver period for your school has not started or it has already ended. Please contact your school for more information.




If you would like to enroll your dependents in the Student Health Insurance Plan, you may do so after confirming your own enrollment. Simply go to www.uhcsr.com and log into your account to purchase your dependent coverage.

What’s Next?  

Once you have submitted your waiver application it will be reviewed. The review process could take up to 10 business days. During the review process you could be asked to submit to your Student Health Insurance Representative proof of your insurance. This could be, but is not limited to, insurance identification card, certificate of insurance, a letter from your insurance company, or your entire insurance policy that outlines your coverage. (All documentation must be in English.) You will be notified at the email address you provided in your waiver application of your approved or denied waiver.

If denied you may appeal this decision by contacting your institution's Student Health Insurance Representative. They will also require you to submit documentation regarding your personal insurance policy. Again, this documentation could be, but is not limited to, your insurance card, a certificate of insurance, a letter from your insurance company, or your entire insurance policy that outlines your coverage. (All documentation must be in English.)
