Welcome to the Georgia Southern University student health insurance plan (SHIP). Here you have the option of enrolling or waiving out of the plan offered by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources.

Open Enrollment for Summer ONLY will open April 21, 2014 close on June 30, 2014.

Students in these categories who are not covered by a policy held by a parent, spouse, company or organization on the approved waiver list or if the policy does not meet the minimum standards that have been established by United Healthcare Student Resources must purchase the USG SHIP policy.
  • All graduate students receiving a Full Tuition Waiver as part of their graduate assistantship award as determined by Georgia Southern University.
  • All undergraduate, graduate and ESL international students holding F or J visas.
  • All undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in programs that require proof of health insurance as determined by Georgia Southern University.
  • All graduate students receiving fellowships that fully fund their tuition as determined by Georgia Southern University.

Students who fall into one of these categories and are already covered by an insurance policy (i.e. through parent plans, family plans or employer-sponsored plans) can easily opt out of the plan by applying for a waiver through a secure on-line process. Once the information has been verified and approved, a waiver will be processed and posted to your Georgia Southern University student account. Please allow 3-7 days for the waiver process to be completed. Students listed in the above categories who fail to submit creditable health insurance information and opt out on-line will automatically be billed for the system-wide student health insurance plan (SHIP). This charge will post to the student’s Georgia Southern University student account.

The waiver period for your school has not started or it has already ended. Please contact your school for more information.
